Wee Walk with Patsy
About
On the 27th April 2023, Patsy, a beloved Wife, Mam, Nana, Aunt and friend passed away peacefully in the ICU Department in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Patsy had suffered from COPD for many years but never complained throughout the duration of her illness.
Patsy spent her last few days in the care of the fantastic doctors and nurses in the ICU Department of Our Lady of Lourdes. The level of care, respect and dignity shown to Patsy during this time will never be forgotten by her family and friends. The care provided by these professionals at such a difficult time has also been provided to many, many others from Louth and the greater North East region. As a family we had agreed at that difficult time that we would organise an event in the future to fundraise for the ICU Department in Patsy’s memory.
One of Patsy’s great loves was to attend GAA matches. This love began when her own kids played for Newtown Blues and continued throughout the rest of her life. In recent years it would be common to see a small red car at any venue throughout the Wee County and for Patsy to be watching a match. In fact, many a Sunday involved going from venue to venue, especially when championship season was in full swing.
From this the idea for the event took place. Over 2 days the family and friends of Patsy will walk from the North to the South of the Wee County to raise funds for the ICU Department. The event is called “Wee Walk with Patsy”. Along the route we will stop briefly at many of the Wee County’s GAA pitches. The event will start on Friday morning from Cooley Kickhams GFC and will finish on Saturday at Patsy’s own club Newtown Blues GFC. Details for the route can be found under “The Route”.
